The crime has become an issue in the society as the victims end up suffering physical and emotional injuries. There are laws that have been created to mandate the reporting sexual abuse cases. A good number of the sexual abuse cases are reported by young adolescents and youths across Canada. These victims come forward with sometimes years of memory repression in regards to the sexual ab use they suffered while they were children, hence making it hard to bring the perpetrators to justice. For this reason, awareness about the crime has to be increased amongst the youths so as to make them conscious about the crime. This paper looks at sexual abuse and how the youths are at risk in Canada.Analysis of sexual abuse in CanadaSexual abuse amongst the youth is well documented in Canada. The crime is not restricted to only girls, but also boys. Using the term sexual abuse would be quite ambiguous, as the act itself is much more complicated than it looks. For instance, using derogatory names, the denial of someone to use contraception after sexual activity, using of unwanted physical force that can cause pain during sexual activity and passing on of sexually transmitted diseases all qualify as sexual abuse. According to some media, adolescence can be part of the reason for the growing cases of sexual abuse (Ney, 2013). This is because this is the age group that is associated with or can easily find selves in practices such as alcohol and drug abuse, which are discussed later. In Canada, the negative behaviors that have been associated with unruly youths have somehow recorded a decrease, thanks to awareness programs and intervention by the parents, teachers and the elderly. Most youths are now finding their education important and are more attached to their families, a move that has helped to reduce sexual abuse cases.In Canada, of every 100 incidents of sexual assault cases, about only 6 are reported to the police or relevant authorities (sexassault.ca, 2014). Only about 2% of date rape, sexual assault cases are reported to the authorities, as a majority of them either shy away or fear to report the cases. This makes it easier for the perpetrators to evade justice, and continue committing the crime. It has also been established that one out of every four women in Canada would have been sexually assaulted in their lifetime, with a majority of these case s taking place when they are still in their youth. 11% of the women who are sexually assaulted end up suffering physical injuries as a result of force that is used by the victims during the crime, while a big percentage end up with emotional injuries, haunting them for the rest of their lives. Although there are many false reports of sexual abuse, it has been calculated that only about 4% of the reports are false, for reasons such as blackmailing or settling grudges (sexassault.com, 2014). In Canada, a staggering 60% of sexual abuse victims were found to be below the age of 17 years, indicating that this is the age group of the most affected victims. Of these, 80% of the cases are reported by women. However, this does not mean that men are not affected or are not supposed to be taken seriously. Some of the men who are victims suffer life-long physical and emotional injuries, while others end up committing suicide. According to the statistical analysis of sexual abuse in Canada by se xassault.ca (2014), it presumed that sexual assault is far more common than it has previously been thought. Also, very few cases are reported to the relevant authorizes and that young and otherwise vulnerable women are most likely to be sexually abused. The reasons that these cases are underreported include personal trauma, fear or re-victimization and whether or not they will be taken seriously. Also, most sexual assaults are committed by people who are known to the victim, while a few are committed by strangers.In the year 2012 alone, there were more than 14000 children and youth sexual assault incidences in Canada (Cotter Beaupre, 2014). In today’s society, abortion is a sore subject, and if America wants to end the debate on whether or not to let abortion be legal, we need to make some changes. For starters, we would need to change how we educate our youth on sexual encounters and how to go about it safely. Rumors : Summary Neil Simon's farce, Rumors, gives readers an in-depth look at the lives of ten wealthy individuals attending a dinner party. In an attempt to stay within the social crown, the characters start unsubstantiated rumors about their friends in an attempt to make themselves look better. The hosts of the party, Ken Gorman, and his wife Chris must cover up the fact that a friend of theirs, Charley Brock, has been shot in the ear lobe. They do not know how he got shot, but they decide that he must have tried to commit suicide, and thereby proceed to spread rumors about what they have heard in an attempt to avoid a possible attempted suicide scandal. They first lie to Charley's personal doctor, they lie about what happened to all of the servants, and they finally about a second gunshot heard in the house. When the Gormans first encounter Charley in his bedroom, they immediately call his personal doctor at the theater to tell him that Charley feels just fine. Chris relates the story to the doctor when she says, "Dr. Dudley, I'm afraid there's been an accident_ Well, we just arrived here at Charley's house about ten minutes ago, and as we were getting out of our car, we suddenly heard this enormous_ thud_ It seemed Charley had tripped going up the stairs_ no, wait, down the stairs. Down the stairs. But he's all right," (13). Finally, Chris manages to explain to the doctor that Charley had not really hurt himself in the first place and that she felt sorry to have bothered him at the theater. After hanging up the phone, the Gormans put Charley in the shower to wash off the blood, wrap a towel around his head to stop the bleeding, and go back downstairs to wait for the rest of the party guests. Lenny and Claire Ganz arrive at the party first. Coming straight from a car accident, the Ganz's ask why Charley has not joined them for the party. Ken Gorman explains that Charley has had a rough day and he decided to take a nap for a little while. Lenny exclaims that he has not had a thing to eat since breakfast and wonders where Mai Li the cook has put all of the food. Not wanting to explain that they have recently fired Mai Li, the Gormans fabricate a story about her having to go back to Japan to visit her sick mother. Claire asks, "But Mai Li is Chinese, isn't she?" The Gormans look at each other and then Chris quickly says, "I know. Her mother was visiting Japan." As a result of this, they must ask their friends to help them prepare dinner for their own party. They know that if they explain to the Ganz's that they do not have enough money to keep her in service any longer, they will fall of out favor with their friends. For this reason, they find it necessary to fabricate stories to explain happenings in the house. As the night progresses, they consistently dig themselves into a deeper hole of lies. The situation eventually gets terrible when Ken tries to hide the gun so Charley can't find it to shoot himself again. On his way to putting in the closet, Ken trips over Charley's slippers and discharges the gun straight into the wall. The report occurred right next to his ear, and for the rest of the play, Ken is almost entirely deaf. Naturally, the Gormans cannot say that a gunshot went off in the house, so they create a variety of different excuses to explain the sound upstairs. At first, Claire decides that a car backfiring has the most credibility, but because of the volume of the sound, she later changes it to a manhole cover that exploded. After some time, she again changes the story to a can of shaving cream that exploded due to the pressure from the manhole cover exploding. This story seems a little far-fetched to the other guests, so she finally says, "Oh, I know. I know. I know exactly what it was_ it was a balloon. They've been blowing up party balloons up there all day," (43). This answer seems satisfactory enough for everyone, and they lapse back into their normal conversations again. The party in Rumors has a lot of humor to it, but on the other hand, it shows just how far people will go just to be accepted by their peers. The Mako Shark Two species of Mako sharks, close relatives of great white sharks,  inhabit the worlds oceans – shortfin makos and longfin makos. One characteristic that sets these sharks apart is their speed: The shortfin mako shark holds the record for being the fastest shark in the sea and is among the fastest swimming fish in the world. How Fast  Do They Swim? The shortfin mako shark has been clocked at a sustained speed of 20 mph, but it can double or triple that speed for short periods of time. Shortfin makos can reliably accelerate to 46 mph, and some individuals may even reach 60 mph. Their torpedo-shaped bodies enable them to surge through the water at such a rapid speed. Mako sharks also have tiny, flexible scales covering their body, allowing them to control the flow of water over their skin and minimize drag. And shortfin makos arent just fast; they can also change direction in a split second. Their remarkable speed and maneuverability make them lethal predators. Are They Dangerous? Any large shark, including the mako, can be dangerous when encountered. Mako sharks have long, sharp teeth, and they can quickly overtake any potential prey thanks to their speed. However, mako sharks dont usually swim in the shallow, coastal waters where most shark attacks occur. Deep-sea fishermen and SCUBA divers encounter shortfin mako sharks more often than swimmers and surfers. Only eight mako shark attacks have been documented, and none were fatal. Characteristics The mako shark averages about 10 feet long and 300 pounds, but the largest individuals can weigh well over 1,000 pounds. This extended life cycle makes the mako shark population extremely vulnerable to practices like overfishing. Mako sharks mate, so fertilization occurs internally. Their development is ovoviviparous, with young developing in a uterus but nourished by a yolk sac rather than a placenta. Better developed young are known to cannibalize their less developed siblings in utero, a practice known as oophagy. Gestation takes up to 18 months, at which time the mother gives birth to a litter of live pups. Mako shark litters average 8-10 pups, but occasionally as many as 18 may survive. After giving birth, the female mako wont mate again for another 18 months. Habitat Shortfin and longfin mako sharks differ slightly in their ranges and habitats. Shortfin mako sharks are considered pelagic fish, meaning they inhabit the water column but tend to avoid coastal waters and the ocean bottom. Longfin mako sharks are epipelagic, which means they inhabit the upper portion of the water column, where light can penetrate. Mako sharks inhabit tropical and warm temperate waters but arent usually found in colder water bodies. Mako sharks are migratory fish. Shark tagging studies document mako sharks traveling distances of 2,000 miles and more. They are found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, in latitudes as far south as Brazil and as far north as the northeastern United States. Diet Shortfin mako sharks feed mainly on bony fish, as well as other sharks and cephalopods (squid, octopuses, and cuttlefish). Large mako sharks will sometimes consumer larger prey, like dolphins or sea turtles. Not much is known about the longfin mako sharks feeding habits, but their diet is probably similar to that of shortfin makos. Endangerment Human activities, including the inhumane practice of shark finning, are gradually pushing mako sharks toward possible extinction. Makos are not endangered at this time, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN), but both shortfin and longfin mako sharks are classified as vulnerable species.
